Moonlit Mayhem Update – 4 months after launch
Well, it’s not a New York Times bestseller yet, but it’s doing okay. Four months into the sales of Moonlit Mayhem I have sold 227 copies. One hundred and fifty of those have been sold through my website, www.jonathanjonesauthor.com , or in person, with the rest being a combination of E-versions (Kindle or eBook) or hard copies sold through a distributor. The book is available in most local libraries and all the KC area Barnes and Noble Bookstores.
From a cost perspective, I have broken even on the cost to produce this book. I’m still not out of the red on total cost because some of the costs that I have incurred are more general and will be applied to future books so I’m not counting them as Moonlit Mayhem expenses. Make no mistake, I’m not getting rich nor am I ready to quit my day job and take up writing full time, but at least I’m not losing money.
With Jill by my side, I have done several “in-person” signings at farmers’ markets, the Cass County Fair, and Barnes and Noble. We will probably do at least one or two more farmers’ markets before the summer is over. I have been very surprised by the amount of time that marketing the book has taken. My plan was to have my next book, which will be a “Tour Guide” to Civil War sites in the KC area, ready by the first quarter of next year, but I don’t know if I’m going to make that personal deadline, as I have not done much work on the new book due to the time I have spent marketing.
I’m still looking for other opportunities to talk about the book and sell more copies but much of the work to get it into local bookstores and just get the word out is wrapping up. I am hopeful that sales through other platforms will remain consistent for the months and years to come. I plan on moving on to the next book in the next couple of months. We met several schoolteachers in the Olathe area at the farmers’ markets and I am hoping that there might be some opportunities to get the book into the area schools. I’m also willing to speak at local civic groups, so if anyone has any contacts, feel free to give them my contact info if they might be interested.
In closing, I just want to say thank you to all who have purchased a book and if you haven’t, what are you waiting for? Get yours today at www.jonathanjonesauthor.com , use the code “moon521” to get $5 off the cover price. Or get it at Amazon or any other bookseller. At this point, it’s about selling more copies, no matter how I sell them. If you have read the book, I would greatly appreciate a review on any platform where you can review books. Just search for the book online and wherever you find it, there is usually a place to leave a review. Reviews really impact future sales and I need more of them.
Again, thanks for all your support not only of Moonlit Mayhem, but also of my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/JonathanJonesHistory . I hope you enjoy the content; I know that I have enjoyed putting it out there. I’d love to hear your thoughts and comments on the posts when they are published. Stay tuned for more exciting stuff coming in the coming months!
